What is planet fantastic?

Planet Fantastic is an edutainment science fiction and fantasy film screening and industry-talk series informed by the arts and sciences. Our initiatives help develop creators in science fiction and fantasy film and television, while supporting emerging STEM innovators.

Who is Planet Fantastic for?

  • Writers, directors and producers in the arts with a focus on science fiction and fantasy film and television
  • University, college, and high-school students emerging in STEM, an educational approach using science, technology, engineering, and mathematics
  • Film crews, union members, and visual effects producers
  • Fans of science fiction and fantasy film and television from the obscure to the mainstream

what we’ve done

  • Provided career development and project development for college and university students, as well as emerging to mid-career writers, directors, and producers from diverse backgrounds
  • Received endorsements from prominent figures and organizations
  • Sourced, managed, and organized a 450-person global industry event at the world’s first permanent IMAX theatre
  • Sourced speakers/producers from North America and Europe to speak remotely: Richard Donner (Superman, Goonies, Lethal Weapon 1-4, The Omen); a producer of the X-Men franchise; and a three-time Oscar-winning VFX inventor.
  • Presented Brownman Ali, Canada’s “pre-eminent jazz trumpet player,” to open the screening of Richard Matheson’s The Incredible Shrinking Man (1957) with the film’s haunting musical score.

Planet Fantastic is an edutainment science fiction and fantasy film screening and industry-talk series informed by the arts and sciences. Our initiatives help develop creators in science fiction and fantasy film and television, while supporting emerging STEM innovators.
