Why Science Fiction and Fantasy?

Sci-fi/fantasy film and TV have been in high demand in human culture. They bring us sobering, potential dystopian realities, they provide us excitement and escape, or they gift us with a hopeful roadmap to a better future. We love science fiction and fantasy at the movies and television.

  • Ninety percent of the highest grossing movies of all time are of the sci-fi and fantasy genres, grossing over *$91,317.9 billion US (Box Office Mojo, May 9, 2019)
  • In television we have an insatiable appetite for science fiction and fantasy equally: The Handmaid’s Tale (Hulu/Bravo!), Westworld (HBO), Game of Thrones (HBO), The Walking Dead (AMC), Stranger Things(Netflix), Who (BBC), Star Trek: Discovery (CBS), The Twilight Zone  (CBS), Altered Carbon (Netflix). Of course, let’s not forget:  Lost, Orphan Black, Black Mirror, Falling Skies, The Six Million Dollar Man,  Quantum Leap, The Incredible Hulk, The X-Files, Battlestar Galactica, Buffy The Vampire Slayer, Supernatural,  Smallville, Titans, Killjoys, American Gods, Beauty and The Beast, The Expanse and … well, you get the idea. Audiences can’t get enough good sci-fi/fantasy content.
  • What sells these worlds is writing, directing, and producing film and television content that’s informed by facts, data, science, and history; resulting in more engaging and more accurate storytelling complemented by visual effects.
  • Our goal is to educate and entertain while providing access, mentorship, and funding avenues for filmmakers.
  • Our objective is to generate these opportunities for innovative STEAM students.
  • Our priority is to support inclusion and diversity in all that we do.
